Rail Wheel Interface

Rail wheel interface systems focus on understanding the dynamic interaction between the rail wheel and the rail while the vehicle is in motion. Abnormal wheel motion patterns can be caused because of poor rail profile or poor track geometry leading to damage to both wheels as well as the rails. Recent research has indicated that there is significant correlation between such abnormal patterns and presence of rolling contact fatigue cracks and corrugation suggesting that some of these defects may be actually caused by such abnormal rail-wheel interface dynamics.

We provide dedicated camera and laser based solutions for understanding the rail-wheel dynamics which measure motion patterns and running band deviation on running rails. The raw data is clustered to determine regions of interest and our information management tools correlate the findings with other measurements including profile and geometry exceptions.
