Rail Profiling

Regular assessment of rail profile is very important for limiting damage to track and rolling stock. Over time, rail wear can substantially increase leading to train derailment. Rail Vision provides a contactless rail profiling system comprising of camera and laser technology which can be installed on a variety of vehicle platforms. Rail profile information can be calculated at a spacing of 15 cms apart along the rail for vehicle speed of 150 kph, and can be sampled with smaller intervals at slower vehicle speed if needed. The measurements can be made at any time of the day and under any weather condition.

Rail profile assessment is available for both flat bottom rail found on most mainline networks and for grooved rail found on most tram networks. In each case, an ideal rail profile is compared with actual profile to make wear measurements at a number of points on the profile. The measurements are location indexed and thresholded to determine track areas that require intervention.
